A legislative victory

December 7, 2018

Words matter, especially when they are embedded in laws.  Words have the power to gravely misjudge the experience of an alienated child or to dismiss the plea of a parent battling impossible odds against an onslaught of masked retaliation.

That's why the legislative win by the Committee for Public and Professional Accountability of the PASG (Parental Parental Alienation Study Group (PASG), represented on our Advisory Board by Dr. William Bernet, is so significant. Their mamonth effort over the past weeks led to the revision of the original adopted wording of House Concurrent Resolution 72, wording that dismissed parental alienation as a “scientifically unsound theory” and advised Courts to ignore such claims when investigating child abuse during custody and adjudication cases.

This is a win that has made it so much harder for Family Courts to overlook this form of child abuse and family violence.

On behalf of all that who persevere in the vital work of parenting in the face of alienation, we thank Dr. Judith M. Pilla, PMHCNS-BC and the entire Committee for Public and Professional Accountability of PASG and look forward to further wins we can advance together because the end is in sight.
