Holidays are upon us
It is safe to say that for most people, winter holidays are a happy time of the year: it is effortlessly festive, it breaths joy, it smells enchanting and tastes delicious. And whether you have loved ones to share it with or, everybody is in their best mood: family suspends baggage, strangers are kind, and you can be generous to kin and strangers alike without needing an explanation.
For most, if it is not too crude to say so, the happiness of this season is contagious, simple and reliable.
But not so for our community, because wherever parental alienation makes its mark, nothing is reliable; nothing is what it should be.
So for all who fight against alienation from their children, this is actually a complex, charged, polarizing time of year.
For those of you able to simply celebrate with your children today, we are delighted for you. We draw hope from your joy! Whether you have a week or just a few hours, let it soak through you, heal weary bones and uplift battered spirit. Let it charge you up for those times when you might otherwise run on empty, and for those of us who might already be.
And for those who aren’t fortunate this year, our hearts go out to you. You may be torn apart by your children’s antagonism. You may not get to see your child(ren) this holiday season at all. It may have even been too long since you did. And your heart may be spent from the most cruel game of yo-yo there is: rushing out beyond all boundaries and reason towards your vision of what these holidays could be; extending hope, stretching faith to the limit; only to withdraw, recoil, regret because of an attack or palpable fear of one.
Please be kind to yourself. Perhaps try to find solace in Parent Survival Guide, or in writing to us. Don’t judge or shame that tender part of you that continues to hope beyond all reason; please don’t harden; please don’t give up. You are not crazy, or alone. This painful yearning for your child(ren) is what makes you a parent, and a human being whose basic right to raise a family deserves celebration and protection .
Through Simply Parent, are uniting like never before so that what your feeling today can be relegated to history.
And to all we are honoured to serve, we wish you piece, joy and wholeness this season.
